Statue Exhibition: Space and Bliss – Treasures of Himalayan Art

European Parliament - (October 6th - October 9th 2008)

A remarkable exhibition was organised in Brussels in October 2008 by the Diamond Way Buddhist Foundation assisted by the Diamondway Buddhist Centre Brussels. More than forty carefully selected Himalayan pieces of art were presented in the European Parliament in Brussels. The exhibits from Tibet, Nepal and India, of which some are several hundred years old, took the visitor into a fascinating world; all under the title “Timeless Values”. All Buddha aspects shown in the exhibition express ideal mental qualities like love and compassion, courage and activity, wisdom and timeless joy.

During the opening ceremony on 7th October, Lama Ole Nydahl, the internationally well-known Buddhist teacher pointed out the contribution Buddhism and its timeless values can accomplish for the development of people as well as the western modern societies. Then he explained the profound meaning of the statues while guiding the large audience through the showroom. The exhibition attracted the interest of the public very much during the following days as well. Members of the European Parliament, the Committee of Regions and many other people from all arrays of European life in Brussels were very impressed and inspired while touring through the powerfield of these Buddhist statues.

The exhibition took place within the European Year of Intercultural Dialogue. For more information please see the official website of the European Year of Intercultural Dialogue More images of the exhibition can be found here
